Silk Screening on Team Sports Uniforms Considered

2011
08.31

If you are a coach or part of a nonprofit kids group that wears uniforms then you know that it is important to get quality uniforms for a very low price. If your team has 12 to 15 games during the season let’s say for soccer or Little League, then your game shirts and uniforms will be worn perhaps 16 times including team pictures.

This also means that they will probably be washed at least 15 times in the wash machine. Uniforms go through a lot of the abuse on the field and in the wash. This is why you need strong uniforms. You also need lightweight material for better performance of your athletes, but with all that said; you also need to save money. This makes picking out uniforms very difficult when you are on a budget and sometimes it means you might need an extra car wash fundraiser or some were candy sales to make up the difference.

Now let’s talk about silk screening on team sport uniforms. When putting silk screens on uniforms you must be very careful not to make the logos to large because it can cause the shirts to stick together or get too hot. Also, as the athlete moves around the logo cannot be read if it is too big.

Many nylons type shirts will not be able to have silk screening because it will melt the shirt. These are all serious considerations to ask your uniform vendor about before spending the extra money on quality sportswear for your athletes. Please consider all this in 2006

Bowling Balls

2011
08.29

Bowling balls are available with a wide range of options. Such options as coverstock, weight block, top weight, and pin location to name a few. With so many variables, how do you choose the right one for you? Many factors, should be considered when making a decision on your next bowling ball purchase.

Let’s briefly breakdown what each of the above mentioned terms mean in reference to bowling balls.

-Coverstock is essentially to outer surface of the bowling ball that creates the shell. Typically, the coverstock can either be dull or shiny on a bowling ball.

-A weight block is the core of the bowling ball. Depending on the shape and density of the weight block, it can influence the reaction of the bowling ball.

-Top weight is the core variation within the bowling ball. If the core is higher in the ball, it produces a higher top weight. If the core is lower, then the bowling ball will have a lower top weight.

-Pin location simply designates the location of the top of the weight block in a bowling ball.

These definitions simply apply to the bowling ball itself. What factors not related to the make/model of the bowling ball? For this we are referring to factors such as your bowling game itself. Things such as ball speed, track flare, axis tilt, etc all play an important role in bowling. Each person has their own unique way of bowling. Knowing your game and style will make it easier for you to make the proper selection when buying a new bowling ball.

Below is a brief breakdown of a few key definitions.

-Ball Speed is simply the speed at which you roll your bowling ball. Many of the newer scoring systems measure the speed of your bowling ball. However, not all are 100% accurate, but it can give you a general idea of what the speed is.

-Track flare is the “oil rings” that appear on your bowling ball after you throw it. These rings show the progression of the rotation of your ball as it is rolling down the lane and the ball changing its axis of rotation while seeking its preferred spin axis.

-Axis tilt is the angle of rotation of the bowling ball.

Depending on your style and lane conditions, making the right decision can be tricky at times. The easiest and best way to decide which bowling ball is right for you is to visit your local bowling pro shop. Many pro shop owners have been around the game of bowling for quite some time. With their knowledge and experience, as well as watching you bowl, they can give you strong recommendations on which bowling ball will suit your game.

However, not every bowling center has an on-site pro shop. Luckily the internet provides a plethora of information regarding bowling balls. Many of the manufacturer sites provide in depth analysis of reactions and characteristics and even a few videos with the bowling balls in action. Customer reviews found on various bowling ball message forums can also provide real life insight as to what a particular bowling ball can do on certain lane conditions. There are even a few retail sites that provide bowling ball reviews, which are customer reviews for various products.

As you can see the internet can be an excellent resource in helping you determine which bowling balls will take your game to the next level.

Smoker Cooking is Worth the Wait!

2011
08.27

Although barbecuing is the typical way most of us cook outdoors, cooking with a smoker is gaining in popularity. Even though the smoked heat method takes considerably longer than your basic charcoal grill, cooks say that the distinctive taste of smoker cooking is well worth the wait.

Smoker cooking is a form of cooking where the smoke from burning wood prepares your foods. Heated hard wood chips, such as mesquite, hickory and oak are placed in a smoker, which not only cook the food, but also add a unique flavor from each wood type. The typical wood smoker has a separate fire chamber, which allows the heat and smoke to pass through the food being prepared. In smoker cooking, food never comes in contact with an actual flame as it does with charcoal grilling. As such, there are no dripping oils, bursts of flames or charcoal burnt food.

Cooking with a smoker allows for a whole range of flavor opportunities. The type of hard wood chips you choose will provide the unique flavor for your smoked food. Hickory typically provides a heavy, smoky flavor to foods, and is often used when smoker cooking a turkey. Wood chips made from apple or pecan trees produce a lighter smoke flavor and will produce foods with a light, slightly sweet smoked taste, often used with a white fish fillet.

Patience and allowing oodles of time to prepare a meal is the key to successful cooking with a smoker. Foods cooked with heated smoke take considerably longer to cook than foods slapped on the barbecue. Depending in the size of the food you are preparing, and the temperature you are cooking, smoker cooking takes hours longer than typical grilling. A four pound piece of meat that will cook in 45 minutes on a barbecue will most likely take at least two hours in a smoker. A four pound chicken will need about four hours in the smoker before it is done. The best way to tell if meat is thoroughly cooked is to use a meat thermometer. Chicken that is thoroughly cooked has a temperature of 165 degrees.

There are endless possibilities when smoker cooking food. Any type of meat, poultry or seafood can be prepared for cooking by a smoker. Experimentation will allow you to find the perfect wood chip for each of your favorite meat types. Rubbing spices on your meat prior to smoker cooking, as well as adding sauces while meat is being prepared adds even more flavor to your food.

Steaming vegetables is also ideal for cooking with a smoker. The cooking with smoke process seals in not just the taste, but the nutrients as well. Smoker cooking is the simple way and tasty way to add more veggies to your diet. Many of your favorite recipes can also be prepared via cooking with smoke. Chili is a smoker cooking favorite for many cooks. Your smoker will most likely come with a cookbook filled with new recipes to try.

So when you have the time and are yearning for food with that unique smoky flavor, consider smoker cooking for your next meal.

You can never know too much about traditional barbecue basics so it is essential to constantly educate yourself on the latest, greatest things about barbecue. Smoker cooking is another way of providing great barbecue. To get more free information sign up for the free 7 part email series on barbecuing at http://www.allaboutbbqsmokers.com/Reg1.html

Collector Car Insurance – Top 6 Benefits of Specialty Collector Car Insurance Companies

2011
08.21

People who own and drive collector cars have different needs for their collector car insurance than they have for their cars that are driven every day. A collectible car is by definition “special”, and so it has special considerations to take into account when it comes to insurance. Your everyday insurance provider that insures the vehicle you drive to work is accustomed to dealing with claims on modern cars that depreciate in value as they age, and the average owner doesn’t notice the difference between a $2000 paint job and a $10,000 paint job. A company that specializes in collector auto insurance has several key benefits to offer the collectible car owner.

Benefit # 1: Lower Premiums – A collector car is normally only driven on a limited basis, stored indoors, not driven in bad weather, and generally leads a “babied” life. Most classic car insurance companies are also somewhat selective in who they will insure. These two factors allow the classic car insurance company to charge much lower premiums than conventional insurance companies, because they know that the collector’s car is less likely to be in an accident.

Benefit # 2: Agreed Value Coverage – Most classic car insurance companies offer an Agreed Value policy, which means that you come to an agreement with the insurance company on what your vehicle is worth before the policy is written. If you have a total loss accident or theft, an Agreed Value policy will reimburse the total amount that was agreed upon when the policy was initiated. Very few conventional insurance companies offer a true “Agreed Value” policy. They offer a “Stated Value” or “Stated Amount” policy has a clause that allows them to only pay what they “think” the car was worth, and it makes the assumption that your collector car is depreciating like a typical used car!

Benefit # 3: They Understand Your Needs – Specialty collector car insurance companies understand your needs better than a typical insurance provider does because in many cases the insurance agents and possibly even the owners of the company are car enthusiasts or collectors themselves. They realize how much your collector car means to you, and they understand the importance of the car being repaired correctly so that it retains its value. When presented with a claim they will give you much less argument and more leeway to get your car repaired the right way the first time.

Benefit # 4: Repair Shop Of Choice – Many everyday insurance companies will only pay a set rate for collision repair at a high-volume body shop that does average-quality work on modern cars. If you take your car to a shop that specializes in restoration work, you may be left footing the bill for the difference in cost. Many antique car insurance companies will allow you to take your car to a specialty repair shop, and they will pay what it costs to have the car repaired the right way by a craftsman that is skilled in restoration work.

Benefit # 5: OE Parts – On a similar note, many everyday insurance companies will only pay for less expensive aftermarket repair parts. Using non-original parts can reduce the value of your vintage car considerably, as they may not fit as well as original equipment parts and an all-original car is always worth more. Many specialty insurance providers allow for the higher cost of using original equipment parts.

Benefit # 6: Perks and Special Situations – Some collector car insurance companies offer many other types of benefits, such as coverage for spare parts, memorabilia, tools, car trailers, coverage for overseas transport, etc. Some even offer medical coverage for personal injuries that occur at car shows, and “event disruption” insurance that reimburse car show entry fees and non-refundable hotel deposits if you miss an event due to a mechanical breakdown on the way there!

All in all, specialty collector car insurance companies have a lot of advantages for the classic car owner. If you own and drive a collector vehicle, you will find that an everyday insurance policy from an everyday insurance company is severely lacking in comparison.

WoW Cooking Guide

2011
08.18

My favorite online game to play is WoW (World of Warcraft) and that is why I am writing this short WoW cooking guide article. I am going to show you a brief overview of the cooking skill in the game WoW. When I say WoW I am referring to the MMORPG World of Warcraft and that is how I will be referring it through out this article.

OK the first thing you will have to do to start cooking in WoW is to visit a cooking trainer to learn the skill. Most of the major cities in the game have cooking trainers and you can get directions to them by asking a guard in the city. Once you find the trainer you will want to learn the apprentice cooking skill and all the recipes you can learn at the moment. You will also want to learn the skill to build a fire so you can cook just about any where you want. This can come in handy if you are out farming material to cook with and are not near a fire source to cook with. You will need to carry a flint and tender and some simple wood in your inventory to build a fire after you learn the skill.

OK now that you have learned all your skills you can buy some ingredients from a cooking supplies vendor and you should be ready to start cooking. You can also buy the flint and tender and the simple wood to build your own fire from the cooking supplies vendor. Just remember that when you reach certain levels you will be able to learn new recipes and you will have to visit the cooking trainer to learn these new recipes.

To gain skill points you will need to make items that you can cook and this will raise your skill points. You can see these items by opening your cooking interface and the cooking icon to do this should be in your spell book. When you open this interface you will notice some things are color coded with orange, yellow, green, or maybe even gray. As you cook items these will change as your skill level goes up. You will want to try and cook items that are colored orange to guarantee skill points that way will gain a point for each item cooked. If you cook items that are yellow or green you are not guaranteed a skill point. If you cook items that are gray you will gain no skill points because your cooking skill level is to high for these items.

There is six different level classes in WoW cooking that you will have to gain as you progress. These different levels are attained by reaching certain skill levels in cooking. You will learn these levels from a cooking trainer once you reach these skill levels. Here is a brief over view of the different levels:

  1. 1-75 Apprentice (Visit trainer)
  2. 75-150 Journeyman (Visit trainer)
  3. 150-225 Expert (Purchase the book called Expert Cookbook from a NPC vendor)
  4. 225-300 Artisan (must complete quest)
  5. 300-375 Master (Purchase the book called Master Cookbook from NPC vendor in outlands)
  6. 375-450 Grand Master (Visit trainer in Northrend)

In order to learn the expert cooking skill you will need to purchase the Expert Cookbook. You can get this book in Shadowprey Village in Desolace (Horde) or at Silverwind Refuge in Ashenvale (Alliance). There should be a NPC vendor in these two areas to purchase it from.

In order to learn the artisan cooking skill you must complete some quests. The cooking trainer named Zamja in Ogrimmar (Horde) is where you should be able to start the quests. If you are alliance a NPC named Daryl Riknussun in Ironforge should be able to help. You will need a 225 Cooking skill to start the quests and a minimum player level of 35 to learn artisan cookin.

You can learn master cooking from a book sold by cooking trainers in Hellfire Peninsula. The horde can buy their book from a NPC named Baxter in Thrallmar. The alliance can get there book from Gaston in Honor Hold.

You can learn the grand master skill from cooking trainers in Northrend. Just visit your factions cooking trainer.

OK that is a quick over view of the cooking profession in the game wow. I hope this wow cooking guide has helped you get a better understanding of the wow cooking profession. If you enjoyed this guide and would like more info on the wow cooking profession I recommend this site: Wow Cooking Guide

The cooking profession is a great way to make more gold in WOW so I would recommend leveling it up.

From House Bowling Balls to Custom Bowling Balls – A Guide

2011
08.18

Are you taking it up to the next level – are you moving beyond house bowling balls in favor of your own, custom bowling ball? Well, before you go out and make the all-important choice as to which bowling ball you should get, you need to consider a few things:

· It is best to have at least two bowling balls – one for oily lanes and one for dry lanes. And you want a strike ball — one with a lot of hook potential and power — and a spare ball, a ball that will roll straight and true.

· Make sure you pick out the right weight – bowling balls range from 6 pounds to 16 pounds. When you have a bowling ball that fits your hand, you can actually use a heavier ball than whatever house bowling ball you were used to using.

· Make sure that you get a bowling ball that fits – get the finger holes custom drilled to fit your hand.

· In general, the more expensive the ball, the better the ball! Of course, that being said, this is genearlly just in terms of price ranges. For instance, a ball that falls in the $100-200 price range most likely will not be as good as a ball that is in the $200+ range. Of course, within those ranges, some bowling balls are definitely better deals than others! And you want to be sure that you are not paying extra money for something that you do not care about (like a glow in the dark ball, for instance).

· Before up and buying your first bowling balls, make sure that you spend the time to carefully decide what material you want your bowling balls made out of.

While bowling balls have been made out of rubber and even wood in the past, today’s bowling balls are made from different materials:

· Plastic bowling balls – this is generally the most inexpensive type of bowling ball, and it is actually usually made out of polyester. If you are used to using house balls, then you are used to using plastic balls. They are very durable. They also skid more (making them harder to control) and are less likely to hook – they are good for dry lane conditions.

· Urethane bowling balls – these balls have softer coverstocks that give the balls more hook potential. These bowling balls can hook more because they have a higher friction surface than your basic polyester balls. To increase or decrease the amount of hook potential, you can sand or buff the ball.

· Reactive resin bowling balls – these are a relatively new type of bowling ball. Only in the 1990s did bowling ball manufacturers started to add resin particles to the urethane coverstocks. What did this resin do? Well, resin is sticky/tacky, and therefore increases the ball’s grip on the lane. It made the balls have even more hook potential. Reactive resin bowling balls skid on oil (giving them great speed) and hook strongly on dry boards. Experienced players can make reactive resin bowling balls work for them with many different lane conditions.

· Particle bowling balls – this type of bowling ball is perfect for anyone (especially experienced bowlers) who want great power potential in their balls. These bowling balls have textured particles like glass and ceramics to resin enhanced balls. This texture give the ball a whole lot of grip in oil, a controllable hook style, and a whole lot of power. Particle bowling balls generally have the greatest hook potential of any balls. Many professional bowlers use particle bowling balls – they like how controllable they are in terms of hook and spin.

Fish Tank Set Up – The Easy Way

2011
08.17

Stop researching the subject and get started!  Starting a fish tank set up needn’t be difficult.  There is an enormous amount of information on the world wide web about setting up fish tanks and it can all seem a bit too much when you first start looking into it.  There are probably half a dozen things that you need to think about when you do your fish tank set up.  If you get those right, you’ll be able to learn the rest as you go along, so stop worrying, make some decisions and start enjoying your first fish tank.

Firstly, tempting as it may be to start with marine fish, I would advise against it.  The fish are a lot more expensive so any mistakes can be very costly.  Secondly, eighty percent of people who start the aquarium keeping hobby give up within twelve months.  With marine fish there a lot more to think about, more to learn and the cost of equipment is higher.  Make it easy on yourself and start with a freshwater tropical fish tank set up.

Why a tropical fish tank set up as opposed to a cold water fish tank set up, simply because it will give you a much wider choice of fish for virtually no extra effort.  First off select your aquarium.  Start with something between 20 and 40 gallons.  A great size for beginners, big enough to be interesting, small enough to be easy to look after.  When you’ve got the hang of it you can always but a bigger tank or get a second one.  make sure that you get an aquarium with a power filter that comes as standard.  (You need to|All you need to do is} make sure that it can pump five times the contents of the tank every hour, so if it’s a 20 gallon tank, it needs to pump 100 gallons per hour, if its a 40 gallon, then its 200 gallons per hour.  Simple maths but important.  If you have a pump that is too small your fish will die.

Think about where the tank is going to go.  Avoid direct sunlight is crucial and somewhere where you can enjoy it without rearranging the furniture too much.  Get it right first time.  Moving a full aquarium and stand is not an easy job and one that you should avoid whenever possible.  Every gallon weighs ten pounds!

Get an extra Heater.  If one fails your fish will still be OK.  It’s surprising how quickly a tank can cool down if the power goes off or a heater down.

Now, think about the fish which fish you want, don’t buy them but do think about what fish you want.  Is this going to be a species tank or a community tank.  I like community tanks simply because I like to see how the fish interact with each other.  Choose some top middle and bottom feeders to balance the tank.  Make sure that they all get on together.  A bit of research and planning will avoid potential problems later.  Most aquarium shops will advice on compatibility of fish.

I say think about the fish because that will effect the next two decisions.  Which substrate and plants.  Substrate is the gravel or sand that goes on the base of the tank.  If you go for fish that feed at the bottom of the tank the substrate needs to suit them as well as the plants.  Sand or Fine Gravel is recommended for bottom feeders.  Choose the easy to look after fish to start with. They tend to be cheaper and are more likely to survive if you make mistakes.

You’ll need enough Sand or Gravel to cover the bottom of the tank.  One and a half to two inches deep at the front of the tank sloping up to about four inches at the back for the larger plants.  Get some laterite that you can mix in with the bottom layer of substrate to help feed the plants.  You won’t need a lot.  Choose plants that don’t need extra light or carbon dioxide.  You can always move on to the harder to keep varieties later on if you get the bug.

Ok time to start.  Place the aquarium in its final position, set up all the equipment like lights filter etc. but don’t plug anything in yet.  Clean the tank with clean water.  Do not use soap or chemicals.  Wash your Gravel or sand until it runs clear.  Mix laterite with about a third of your substrate and spread it over the base of the tank.  Add the remainder of the substrate covering the base layer evenly and landscaping it as you want it.  Put a plate in the bottom of the tank and add your water pouring gently onto the plate to avoid disturbing the laterite.  Add your water conditioner to remove any chlorine.  Once the tank is full turn everything on and let it run until the water is up to temperature.  Now add your plants, putting the large ones at the back and leaving space for them to grow.

Now it is time for patience.  The biggest mistake that most people make with a fish tank set up it is not cycling the tank properly.  Your fish will be living in their own toilet.  Their waste together with any uneaten food will rot and create Ammonia which is poisonous to them.  So you need to allow the nitrogen cycle to establish fully before adding any fish.  There are several ways of speeding this up but I find the household ammonia method the quickest and easiest.

Once your tank is cycled it is safe to start adding fish and start enjoying them.  Fish tank set up completed and not too difficult!

Frugal Families: Clothing Your Kids For Less

2011
08.16

Keeping a reasonable budget for clothing doesn’t mean that your frugal family has to live with outdated, out of style and worn out clothing. Frugal families use several tips and techniques to keep their kids stylishly dressed without breaking their budgets.

1) School and play clothes. My boys play hard outside. They are dirt magnets and we joke that their play jeans are “blessed” (holey versus holy). I insist they change into their ‘play’ clothes when they get home from school and decide to go outside. Play clothes are any article of clothing that has seen better days, is still serviceable but isn’t acceptable for most things outside of the backyard. Whereas, school clothes are meant for school and/or other events and locations that I want them to appear with clean, unstained and publicly presentable attire. We save a lot of money by making sure we don’t have to go out and replace good clothing that they destroyed in backyard play.

2) Clothing bins for future wears. We have bins for clothing in the attic. The bins are labeled by the size of the clothing inside. We have three boys so I know the clothing is all for the same sex but if you have girls and boys, you might want to label them along the lines of “girls size 8″ and “boys size 10″. I don’t bother to sort clothes by seasons, just sizes. This makes it easy to find replacement clothing as the children outgrow what they have. If my 14 year old outgrows something, the hand-me-downs go into the proper sized bin for the other two kids and we ‘shop’ in the next sized bin (see next paragraph).

I also keep clothing bins for larger sized clothing I have either been given or have found at tag sales, thrift-stores or killer department store sales. One year I found season-end deals on coats and shirts that I couldn’t pass up (Columbia winter coats marked down nearly 80%. I bought four of them based on anticipated growth for the next two winters and then stored them in the larger sized bins). Don’t pass up fantastic deals simply because, “My child isn’t that big yet.” I guarantee you that your child will be that size when you can’t find anything at a great price and in the long run, you’ll spend more.

If you don’t have room for bins, do give up! Store clothes in bags under beds, in the bottom of closets (or tops of closets), under the couch or “in plain sight” in a chest designed to look like a table. Whatever you can store today for later is like putting money in the bank and if you were trying to find places to store cash, you’d get creative.

3) Never refuse hand-me-downs or pass-along clothes. I have several friends who have an older boy and a younger girl. They know they can pass along their boy clothes to me. I sort through the clothes and place them in the appropriately sized bin so we can ‘shop’ for clothes down the road (if no one is currently in that size or we’re in the wrong season). Sometimes the clothes have seen better days and then they become camping/play clothes. Sometimes I know that there will be clothing that the kids can’t or won’t wear but are still great. I’ll either ask if they should be returned or if it’s okay to pass them on or donate. The other thing is that so many kids grow so quickly that they outgrow clothing before they outwear the clothing. Some pass-along or hand-me-downs look nearly as good as when they were bought!

4) Take care of the clothing. This is especially true if you have more than one child or plan to have more. Take care to pre-treat spots (fels naptha soap is a great laundry bar that gets out serious dirt and there are other commercial spot treaters), launder clothing according to it’s label so it’s not ruined and store it properly so you’ll have them for your other children. Make sure you store clothing in clean bins that will keep out bugs and rodents and moisture.

5) Shopping the deals. This goes backs and touches upon the idea presented with the bins. I always keep an eye out for great deals on our children’s clothing. With three boys, I always know that sooner or later, a boy will fit into some size. When they were younger, I could even get great deals on sneakers by watching for sales (brand-name high-quality children shoes for less than $10/pair sometimes) and stashing the sneakers in the shoe bin for later use as they outgrew their current pairs.

I shop season-end clearance sales and always peruse the 80% off racks when I’m in a store. Two of my boys have a preference for certain clothing and even with that, I have never paid over $7.00 for their shirts. We were at some outlet stores last winter and the sock/underwear outlet had a sale on socks, buy two packages of socks and get one free. That was a savings of about $9. I stocked up and bought ahead on sizes knowing that I wasn’t always at the outlet and I never managed to find sock sales. It also saved me the time and gas of running out and doing the 40-mile round-trip to the nearest clothing store when they needed larger socks.

I always shop all of the sizes at the thrift stores. Knowing that my boys are rapidly growing, I usually don’t shop just their current sizes. I make sure to check out all of the sizes knowing that I can put any larger sizes into the bins for future needs. Again, brand new jeans, shirts and shoes from the thrift stores have made their way into the bins for a huge savings.

Clothing your children doesn’t have to eat up hundreds or even thousands of dollars every year. With a bit of planning, a careful eye when shopping and a bit of storage (even if it’s creative storage), you can be a frugal family when it comes to clothing your children for less.

The Cooking Tips For Gas Grills That Every Griller Needs to Know

2011
08.14

When preparing food for the grill, the greatest challenge for home cooks is that grilling is an intense form of direct heat cooking, and controlling the heat can be tricky. Although most people see it as easy, grilling is actually one of the most challenging of the basic cooking methods. If cooking is like driving a car, grilling is like being strapped to a rocket ship! Now more than ever, creative home cooks are looking for the best cooking tips for gas grills. As the weather starts to get nicer and the great outdoors beckons, attention starts to turn to outdoor cooking – and gas barbeque grills can’t be beat for simplicity and convenience. But grilling only becomes EASY when you know these important cooking tips for gas grills that are guaranteed to improve your results. Grilling, like any basic cooking method, can be mastered. These cooking tips for gas grills will get you started on the road to expert grilling any time of year.

Preparing Recipes for the Grill

Cooking all recipes for the grill starts with understanding how the grilling method acts differently on different types of foods. Because grilling is an intense heat form of cooking, careful product selection is extremely important. The grill will not tenderize meats so you must start with a tender product if you want to end with a tender product. Marinating meats when making recipes for the grill is the best way to apply some tenderizing properties before cooking. The product itself is also an important consideration because you want to make sure it will be able to withstand this form of direct high-heat cooking. Different products will handle this differently and some are just not the best choice for standard grilling. A very delicate fish, such as tilapia, will not perform very well on the grill because the high heat may burn the outside of the fish before the inside cooks at all. Another consideration is when grilling combinations of different foods, as in skewering vegetables. A mushroom will cook faster than a carrot or potato, for example. You will achieve far better results by par-cooking the “harder” items prior to skewering so that all vegetables are the correct done-ness at the same time. Once you have considered the differences in the types of foods you will be grilling and preparing them accordingly, the basic procedure for creating recipes for the grill is:

  1. Heat the grill on HIGH with the lid closed to heat up the coals and grates to as hot a temperature as possible.
  2. Brush the food item with the oil of your choice and place it on the hot grates – presentation side (“pretty side”) down.
  3. For GRILLING, leave the grill cover OPEN.
  4. After a few minutes inspect the item. You are looking for the item to start to brown around the edges and to see pink (almost clear) moisture bubbling up to the top. This will be your signal that the item is 75% cooked on one side and that is the time to flip it.
  5. Do not use a fork to flip the item and do not puncture it in any way – because that will allow precious juices to escape.
  6. Using an instant-read thermometer – because this is the only real way to know when something is done – remove the item 5-10 degrees BEFORE the desired final internal temperature.

A Gas Grill Cooking Twist

Although GRILLING is always done with the lid cover open, gas grill cooking can incorporate additional cooking methods that make it preferable to cook with the grill cover closed. With the grill lid closed, the grill changes from a CONDUCTIVE cooking vehicle to a CONVECTIVE cooking one – more like your oven. Of course you could just use your oven for using these cooking methods, but outdoor cooking does have some advantages over indoor cooking – particularly in warmer weather. So how do you turn your dry heat, direct source cooking vehicle (the grill) into one that can utilize a moist convective cooking process? It’s actually a pretty cool technique for gas grill cooking. This is a trick I use most often with delicate fish, such as tilapia. First, I turn the heat OFF on the side of the grill that my tilapia will cook. Then, I add a pan of water to the bottom of the other side of the grill – right on top of the heat elements. Keep in mind that this “water” can be any kind of liquid you like. I use shrimp stock sometimes with fish, but you can season it with chicken broth, wine – anything that is liquid and imparts nice, complimentary flavors to the product you are cooking. Then, the fish is placed either directly on the grill (if you have a flat grate option) or you can put it in a cast iron pan and put it on the grill grates. The rest of the procedure for this type of gas grill cooking follows the normal grilling process – cook with your eyes and observations, flip after 75% done, use a thermometer to determine final temperature and remove a bit “early” to allow for the carry-over cooking that occurs. And that’s it, now you can consider gas grill COOKING in addition to standard GRILLING for great outdoor cooking results.

Gas Barbeque Grills vs Charcoal Grills

You will hear from many self-proclaimed GRILLMASTERS that the traditional charcoal grill is far superior to the gas barbeque grill, but the gas grill has many advantages that make it a great choice for any outdoor cooking situation. I will admit that the charcoal grill provides opportunity for a deep, smoky flavor that is not fully achievable with the gas barbeque grill, but after that all of the “pros” go into the gas grill’s column. For starters, the gas grill is much easier and safer to start because it uses propane as fuel and starts at the press of a button. Charcoal grills can be easily started with lighter fluid, but this can be dangerous, and can impart an undesirable taste into the food. Plus, the gas grill turns OFF as easily as it turned on! No waiting for coals to cool so that you can empty and clean the grill and no messy coals to dispose of. The other nice thing about gas barbeque grills is that they allow for consistent heat throughout the cooking process. With the charcoal variety, the cook has to really control the heat by actually moving products closer and further and this takes some practice and experience.

These cooking tips for gas grills seem simple but they truly are the difference between great grilling results and disappointing meals. The next time you get ready to grill, remember that careful product selection and a basic understanding of cooking methods is all you need to master the barbeque grill, creating outdoor meals and memories for life.

Get In Career Shape

2011
08.13

Research suggests that as many as 8 out of 10 employed adults are in the wrong job or career! They are in poor career-shape or have little or no career-stamina.

If you are one of the 8 or your goal is to shape up, it is important to have a good understanding of some basic career management principles for a healthy career workout and to help you make the best decisions about your career on a day-by-day basis.

Career Fitness Tips

Here are 10 proven tips to maximize your career-workout:

  1. Set Goals You Know You Can Reach. Keep your goals realistic. Unrealistic goals leave many people feeling like a failure even after a career success. Rather than feeling good about what has been accomplished, many feel dissatisfied because they have not yet attained their dream career. To manage your expectations, set reasonable goals that can be worked on and achieved.
  2. Divide your career goals into manageable pieces. Bite off only what you can chew at any given moment. Resist the urge to multi-task when working on your career goals. If you overdo it and push yourself by trying to accomplish everything at once, you will become discouraged and lose your motivation.
  3. Work On Your Goals One At A Time. Prioritize your career goals and then work to achieve the first one. Continue to tackle each subsequent goal by completing it before starting the next one. Before you know it you will have accomplished all of your career objectives.
  4. Make Modest Changes To Your Work Habits. There are a number of “baby steps” you can take to advance your career. Instead of fantasizing about the perfect career, apply creative thinking and implement a few “quick wins” to boost your career.
  5. Develop A Career Roadmap. A career roadmap helps you find the best route or direction to take to achieve your career objectives. List the actions you will take to ensure an interesting, challenging and rewarding career that uses your best strengths and natural talents.
  6. Increase Your Focus. To stay challenged and to progress towards your ultimate career goal, gradually increase the intensity and focus your efforts as you follow your Career Roadmap.
  7. Make It A “Whole-Person” Experience. Your career is more than just one or a series of jobs. A well-rounded career includes a balance of healthy personal relationships, work, and recreation (fun). To avoid boredom, make sure you include others who have a stake in your career and activities you truly enjoy.
  8. Celebrate. Whenever you achieve a goal, do something nice for yourself. Make sure it’s more than just a pat on the back or verbal acknowledgement; make it worthwhile.
  9. Consult A Career Management Specialist. If you’re serious about advancing your career, hire a professional to help you get the most from your career activities and to motivate you to stick with your plans.
  10. Get A Career Fitness Partner. Find a mentor or colleague who is willing to be your career fitness partner. Choose someone who will motivate and challenge you when you want to quit. Or, form a support group with co-workers who share similar career interests.

As you begin to use these tips, they may at first feel burdensome. However, with a little effort and continued use, they will become second nature.

Tractor Rims – Looking For A Good Deal

2011
08.13

A tractor is the heart of America, doing jobs that help keep millions of people fed and clothed. Tractor rims are an important part for your tractor whether you own a John Deere, Ford Tractor, Allis Chalmers, International Harvester, Farmall, Massey Ferguson, Massey Harris, Ferguson, Oliver, White, Minneapolis-Moline, Case or David Brown tractor.

When you are looking for new tractor rims, you may be inclined to head straight to the tractor supply store and buy them off the shelf. You might be able to find a better deal by shopping for your new tractor rims at a farm auction or online. You should be able to find them at a variety of online tractor suppliers and maybe even on an auction site such as eBay.

Rim Types

There are different styles of rims for your tractor including split rims, adjustable rims, multi-fit double bevel, single bevel and formed rims. A split rim has two pieces which come apart making it easier to replace the inner tubes on your tractor tires when necessary. An adjustable rim means it can be adjusted to allow a narrower or wider stance depending on whether you need better maneuverability or greater stability for the job your tractor needs to do.

Shopping for tractor rims online has another great advantage in that you can check customer reviews of the rims before you buy them. It is important to note that a certain rim may be better in one set of circumstances or on one brand of tractor more than another. Having this information available before making a purchase can save time, money and unneeded stress.

The Online Advantage

The type of rim you choose may depend on the type and brand of tractor you are driving, what the tractor is primarily used for, what kind of tires you are putting on the tractor and your own personal preference. Shopping for new tractor rims online will make the process much easier and more efficient. You should also be able to save a significant amount of money as well as time and energy.

A Long Term Investment

Tractor rims are made of high-quality materials to handle the heavy weight and tough workloads of the tractors. They may come in yellow, black or silver and there are advantages to each in addition to the cosmetic factor – not usually a big issue for tractors, although it is important to some people. Your tractor rims are an important part of your tractor and need to be in good condition in order to keep your tractor moving properly. This should be an investment that will last for many years, so you will want to review your options carefully before making a purchase decision.

Finding good quality tractor rims at a reasonable price will require some comparison shopping, but the time invested will be well worth it. The number of online retailers that carry tractor rims has grown significantly in the past few years and that means more competition and better deals for everyone.

Unite08 – An Unrealistic Political Opportunist’s Favorite Third Party

2011
08.11

Again, history is on the path to repeat itself in American Politics. It seems like for 2 different reasons America’s citizens have felt the need for a third party in politics. Either they believe in one or two political issues that they feel are not given a big enough role in either of the two big parties platforms or they don’t believe in anything and are annoyed with how democracy and debate work to solve political issues in society.

The green movement in American politics showed that the first of the reasons for forming a political third party actually are useful way of having an impact on politics. The main reason the American political system has only two parties is the ballot setup and how political elections are won. As we all know, it takes a majority or 51% of the vote to win most elections in politics and 51% of the state’s citizens votes to win all of the state’s electoral college votes.

The majority system in politics pits two candidates against each other and gives no incentives for only winning 15% of the votes. The contrast to the American political system is Great Britain, which has a proportional system. Because of this system, politics in Great Britain are different at their core from American politics. In a proportional political system, if there are 10 seats available and a political party wins 20% of the vote then they win 2 seats out of 10. I’m sure you can imagine how this influences the whole art and strategy of politics in this system.

Ok so what is unity and what do they have to do with all of this?

Unity08 on the surface is trying to sell itself as the party of the people and uses polls and catchy marketing to try to convince people to join their cause. They are a wannabe third party that has no core issue(s) that are not covered by the two major parties. They actually claim that they take on the more crucial issues rather than the somewhat important issues that don’t actually affect people.

They show base for their support by citing a polls that show the American public agrees with some things that are totally unrelated to a third party in politics. Things such as dissatisfaction with the way the country is headed and polarizaton. Also they polled on hypothetical questions of a different unity ticket and probably asked whether they agree or disagree with the idea. Good political pollsters know that people are always more likely to agree on any question when given the choice.

Ok now what do they have to do with third party politics? Well technically, they claim they do not want to be a third party. No No….They want to influence the big 2 political parties by giving them a wake up call. Oh it gets much better than this. They seem to contradict themselves a lot. They don’t want to leave their political parties but they want a moderate candidate or one person from each big political party to join together and run under their ticket.

So on some of their crucial political issues of national debt, nuclear proliferation, health care for all, and the disappearance of the American Dream they just want one candidate from each party to come together and run?

Ok Ok….Slow me down if I am wrong about this but is their differences on how to go about these issues what makes America the model democratic republic? Did our founding fathers not set our political system up with just that clash and debate?

I feel like I am under the Capitol Dome looking at the painting of Thomas Jefferson apparently stepping on John Adams toe and unity asking Mr. Jefferson if they could shake him up and then to embrace Mr. Adams like his political best friend. The political founding fathers setup the American system on the ideals of Newtonian physics where 2 political parties would both butt heads and the equal opposite reaction would end in a balance.

You cannot expect to take bits and pieces from each different approach given by the major parties, throw them into a blender and out comes the perfect solution. Most moderates in politics today hold views on political issues that are held by both political parties. However, they are affiliated with a certain political party because they believe in their core platform.

Finally, if unity08 plans to have one prominent member from each party on their presidential ticket for the 2008 political elections then how do they decide which party holds the President and which one holds the Vice President. I feel like I shouldn’t need to say this but unity08 makes it out like they do not see the huge difference in power between those two political offices.

So my final thought is this…The main founders and backers of unity08 are in this thing for exactly one reason. *Drumroll* MONEY. Plain and simple. Unity08 said they are seeking an advisory council from the FEC to see if they can be considered not a political committee. This means they do not want to be bound to FEC rules. Also nothing states that they are a non-profit and therefore I have to wonder whether they are not just a for-profit company.

Finally, one of the main founders bio on their webpage states this…

“Hamilton Jordan, Atlanta, Georgia. Carter White House Chief of Staff, writer, investor; focused on for-profit and non-profit start-ups; most importantly, father of three.”

This could mean nothing but it sure sticks out…investor;…for-profit and non-profit start-ups. Also, most of these former political people would not have wasted their time on this if they couldn’t control the cut they’ll make as consultants for unity08.

hmmm…This thing smells of scam and unrealistic dreams that not only contradict the founding fathers political setup for America but are also bad for America. The 2 party system is and will always be the best system for America. Does America need political advocates and higher citizen engagement? Of course! Conflict and honest debate is the best path to the perfect solution.

So to end let me say, unity08, no thanks.

here’s a link to their site. I feel like it is doing them a service but for my readers that don’t know what I am talking about I feel I must.

Childcare – Knowing Which Provider Suits the Home

2011
08.10

Both parents that are employed have become a common setup in most families today. The society has become open-minded with the need for mothers to help provide for the family. Thus, proper child-rearing has been a strong and primary concern for working parents especially if children have reached the school age. The parents’ responsibility is to find reputable institutions or individuals which will provide the proper childcare that the children needs.

Childcare Options

Childcare refers to the supervision of children in the absence of parents or guardians. Childcare is called for when there are minor children in the house that needs taking care of. When parents are away from work, the childcare provider shall act as the second parent. In some cases, parents require childcare for children when they need to spend quality time together away from home.

Depending on situations of parents and the age of children, childcare may be an every day or occasional requirement. Childcare may be done in the home of the kids, in the home of the childcare provider or in an established childcare or daycare centres.

Most parents choose in-home childcare such as the nanny, babysitter, au pair and governess because of the belief that their home is safer for the children.

The Nanny

In the old days, nannies are employed only by the rich or the aristocrats. Nowadays, many families employ nannies for childcare excluding the traditional concept of a nanny who wears a uniform.

A nanny is an individual who looks after children to provide the necessary childcare. Basic duties include childcare during the agreed hours set by the employer; supports the intellectual and social development of children; protection of children from harm; meal preparations; proper communication with the employers; and sometimes maintenance of cleanliness of the home.

The nanny may be hired as a live-in or live-out employee on a full-time basis. Formal training is not commonly required but advantageous. Parents prefer that a nanny has previous on the job experience.

The Babysitter

Unlike a nanny, a babysitter is hired on a part-time basis only usually when parents are still at work or out on weekends. Babysitting requires no formal training. Mostly, babysitters are teenagers who need the extra money. While training is not required, babysitters should have the right skills in times of emergency.

The Au Pair

A French term which means “equal to”, the au pair is a foreigner, usually an unmarried woman of 18 to 26 years old, who visits a host family for a period of two years. The au pair is intended to be considered a part of the family and receives a personal allowance and a private room. During her stay, the au pair is tasked to help in childcare and household chores of the host family.

Considering the meaning, the au pair is not a domestic helper. An au pair is included in all the daily activities of the family and attends social events with them. Being an au pair is an opportunity for travel and cultural exposure.

The Governess

The governess is a trained and educated childcare provider who is solely employed for the education of children.

Choosing the right childcare option for the family takes considerable time and extensive research. It is noteworthy to consider that parents should never depend on childcare providers alone to support the growth of children. More importantly, parents must remain to balance time to be with the children in the growing up years.
